Those of us who have come these long distances to attend this conference undoubtedly all are motivated similarly-by our interest in brucellosis and by admiration and respect for our neighbors to the South who have contributed so much to the knowledge of the subject. Ever since the First Inter-Ameritan Congress in Mexico in 1946 1 have eagerly anticipated the opportunity to renew the acquaintance of those whom 1 met there and to Iearn what further advances have been made in the study of brucellosis.
